Dr. Kalyan Mitra is an Internist (a physician in Internal Medicine) from Berhampore. In his career of six years, Dr. Mitra has gained a plethora of medical experience at a local and overseas level.
A MBBS graduate from Bankura Sammilani Medical College (Bankura-West Bengal), Dr. Mitra pursued higher medical education and completed his MD (Internal Medicine) from Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. Post MD, Dr. Mitra posted success in his MRCP examinations from The Royal College of Physicians, London.
During Dr. Mitra’s tenure as a Junior Resident in The Department of General Medicine at Medical College and Hospital, he gained a wide exposure in 4 major specialities viz. Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology and Nephrology. At the centre, he also received the privilege to be a part of the HIV clinic, one of the largest in India, handling all HIV related co-morbidities, specifically patients with HBV, HCV and TB co-infections. His overseas experience as a Specialty Doctor of Medicine for older people at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital, Basildon, Essex, UK provided him an in-depth experience in managing acute medical conditions.
Presently, Dr. Mitra is serving at Lila Hospital and Rabindranath Thakur Diagnostic and Medical Care Centre, Berhampore where he is responsible for the management of Internal Medicine emergencies and being involved in the service of patients in need of ICU care. Apart from training junior medical officers, Dr. Mitra’s job entails him to work on core areas like hospital infection control measures, antibiotic protocols and high standards of care facilities.
In terms of research achievements, Dr. Mitra has compiled a database of over thousand Type 2 Diabetes patients, inorder to study the efficacy and degree of control that can be achieved through different modalities of treatment in rural India, in comparison to Western societies.
Dr. Mitra harbours a desire to build a team specialised in dealing with acute medical conditions. He would like to associate himself with clinical research and make some valuable contributions in medicine. He believes in providing comprehensive care to his patients and his constant endeavour is to achieve the same.
